Ms. Materre’s primary areas of practice are business and corporate law, residential and commercial real estate, and entertainment law.  She serves as Senior Counsel in the Commercial Practice Group at Handler, Thayer & Duggan.  In this capacity, she performs a variety of tasks including drafting and negotiating commercial franchising, financing and condominium agreements, as well as employment contracts, option agreements, purchase agreements and writer and producer agreements.  In addition, she develops Private Placement Memoranda, forms corporate entities and drafts partnership agreements, operating agreements, and asset purchase agreements.

Ms. Materre also represents broadcasters and has placed clients with Fortune 500 media companies including ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, ESPN, and the Oprah Winfrey Show. She has been retained by CBS as a Legal Expert for a case involving an employment contract dispute.  She has also served as Outside Counsel for The Black Entertainment Television Network (BET).

Her experience includes teaching within the Legal Writing Department at John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois and within the English Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 

Ms. Materre earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, Illinois.

She is a member of the Chicago Inn of Court, the National Association of Black Journalists, Links Incorporated and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Ms. Materre was recognized in the 2006-2007 Cambridge Who’s Who for Empowering Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs.  She has served as a speaker for the Black Entertainment Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA) and is a former Board Member of the Chicago Community Media Workshop.
