Mr. Powers serves as Senior Counsel in the Commercial Practice Group at Handler, Thayer & Duggan. His practice is concentrated in the areas of business, corporate and securities law with an emphasis on domestic and international private equity formation and related transactions. His key contacts and relationships include private equity investment bankers. As a corporate generalist, Mr. Powers advises clients on a wide range of issues that private business owners may confront.
Mr. Powers has served as general counsel to broker dealers and other regulated financial services firms, focusing on domestic regulatory compliance. He also has over 20 years of litigation experience including jury trials to verdict as well as arbitrations and administrative proceedings. His litigation experience is focused on commercial cases and regulatory compliance for the securities and futures brokerage industry.
Prior to joining Handler, Thayer & Duggan, Mr. Powers served as In-house Counsel for A-Street Capital Corporation, an investment banking firm concentrating on private equity transactions. Prior to A-Street, Mr. Powers was associated with Hinshaw & Culbertson and has been a partner in several other Chicago-based law firms.
Mr. Powers earned a Bachelor of Sciences in Economics Degree from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Michigan School of Law in Ann Arbor. Michigan.
